 Aftercare Instructions for Installations

  • Give your new lawn at least 2 to 3 cm (1 in) of water within the 1/2 hour of installation.
  • Water your sod daily or mor often, keeping turf moist until it is firmly rooted (about 2 weeks). Then less frequent and deeper watering should begin.
  • Weather conditions will dictate theamount of water and frequency of watering needed.
  • Be certain that your new lawn has enough moisture to survive hot, dry, or windy periods.
  • Water areas near buildings, asphalt & pavement more often where reflected heat dries the turf.
  • Water areas near tree roots & plantings more often where the plants may intake water.
  • Caution: During the first three weeks, avoid heavy or concentrated use of your new lawn. This gives the roots an opportunity to firmly knit with the soil, and insures that the turf will remain smooth

  • New seed needs extra watering care.Once wet, each individual seed should not be dried out before germination.
  • Remember to water your grass seed 3 times a day and move sprinklers if puddles form.
  • The best time to water grass seed is between 10 am, 2 pm and 4 pm for 10 minutes each time.
  • Hand watering with a hose or watering can is insufficient and will lengthen growing time.
  • If you are unable to be home during the day, apply water before work and immediately after.
  • Water the lawn daily until all seed germinates – this can take up to 2 weeks for bluegrass.
  • The colder the weather, the slower the germination process will take, optimal time is 21-30 days.
  • Keep heavy foot traffic off areas until seed germinates

  • Ensure proper aftercare of nursery stock; such as, providing ample water supply as per Landscape Ontario plant specific guidelines.
